  • The British officers exploited Indians in many ways. They imposed heavy taxes on Indians farmers and reduced import duty on goods manufactured in England and imported to India. Even they cut the thumbs of expert artisans.

  • Indian peasants were forced to produce goods and crops such as indigo and cotton for factories in England.

  • Indian craftsman could not compete with the low prices of factory-made goods from Britain.

  • The British introduced the railways, telegraph, postal and western education system in India which backfired them as it led to awakening.
