Standard
6.NS.3 Fluently add, subtract, multiply and divide multi-digit decimal numbers using a standard algorithmic approach.

2
Decimal Addition
First stack the numbers and line up the decimal points.
Second add numbers from right to left.
Follow addition rules for carrying over by place value.
Check your work
3
Decimal Subtraction
Stack the numbers larger number on top.
Align the decimal points.
If a number has fewer decimal places extend it with zeros
Subtract the top bottom number from the top number from right to left.
Borrow and reduce as needed to solve the problem.
Check your work make sure your decimals line up
4
Decimal Multiplication
Start by stacking your numbers largest number on top.
You do not need to align the decimal points in multiplication
Follow standard multiplication steps
Multiply the ones place with the top number
multiply the tens place to the top number
5
Multiplication
Remember for every place value on the bottom number you should have a new row to add together
Also use zero as spacers when starting the new row Example the third row should have 2 zeros since it represents the 100's place
When you have multiplied all of the bottom digits against the top number add the products.
count how many decimal places were in the original numbers and from the right count to the left and place the new decimal point.
Check your work
6
Decimal Division
Set up your division problem for long division
Ignore the decimal places for now
going from left to right divide the dividend by the divisor and solve to get the quotient
Count how many decimal places were in the original problem
counting from right to left place the decimal point to the left of the number of places in your quotient
