  • These laws helped him govern or lead his empire.

  • There are 282 laws. Many of them dealt with business and property.

  • It gave the Mesopotamians a set of rules to follow, just like we have rules in a classroom

  • The Code of Hammurabi was very harsh with its punishments.

  • Assyrians were from Northern Mesopotamia

  • Assyrian culture was influenced by Babylonian culture, but the Assyrians valued war and conquest

Ashurbanipal

Was a very educated man. He could read and write ancient Sumerian as well as Akkadian. He would eventually build a great library at Nineveh, his capital city. The library contained works of literature, as well as writings on history, mathematics, and astronomy. Clay tablets from the Ashurbanipal's library helped historians learn about Mesopotamia.

Babylonia Grows

  • In 605 B.C Nebuchadnezzar II was crowned king of Babylon. He would go on any take over Mesopotamia including parts of the Assyrian Empire.
