Too, either, so and neither are used to say that a statement is also true for you or for other people.

Too, Either, So & Neither

Either and Neither are used to express agreement with negative statements.


So and Too are used to express agreement with affirmative statements.

Too, Either, So & Neither

So and neither are used at the beginning of a sentence and the subject and auxiliary verb are inverted.

Ex: Neither do I / So do I.


Either and too are used at the end of a statement, and no inversions are needed.

Ex: I can't either / I do, too.

Too, Either, So & Neither: tenses and auxiliaries verbs

  • Simple Present: do/does

  • Simple Past: did

  • Present Perfect: have/has

  • Modals: can; would;

  • Verb be - present: am/are/is

  • Verb be - past: was/were

Verb Patterns!

Verb patterns is a term used to describe how two verbs are used one after the other within a sentence.


Some verbs must be followed by a second verb in the infinitive form with to (I want to go now). Other verbs, however, must be followed by a verb in its -ing form (I enjoy watching horror movies).

Verbs followed by -ING and TO-INFINITIVE

Attention! Some verbs can be followed either by -ing or by to-infinitive verb forms with a change in meaning.


The verbs: STOP, REMEMBER, FORGET and TRY can be followed by

-ING or TO-INFINITIVE verbs.
