HOPE Changes

  • In 2011, changes were made to the HOPE Scholarship.

  • Now, very few students get all of their tuition paid.

  • That means college will cost students more out of their own pocket.

  • SAT score of 1160 (after March 2016)

  • Must graduate high school with a 3.0 GPA in math, science, social studies, English, & foreign language

Honors Classes

  • If you take an Honors class, you get 5 points added when we calculate class rank, honor graduate, etc.

  • Those 5 points will not be included when HOPE is calculated.

AP Classes

  • If you took an AP class, 5 points are added.

  • For HOPE, they take away 5 points. For instance:

  • 92 - 5 = 87 (B which is a 3.0)

  • Then, they will add .5 back to the GPA.

  • 3.0 + .5 = 3.5

HOPE Scholarship

  • HOPE now pays about 90% of tuition at Georgia public colleges.

  • After 2011-2012, HOPE Scholarship and Grant will be adjusted based on lottery revenues.

HOPE Grant

  • For technical college tuition

  • Can have a 2.0 GPA to qualify

  • This increases the amount of students who are eligble for the HOPE Grant.
