2

Action Verbs

  • An action verb is a verb that carries a sense of movement or an action

  • For example, listened would be a action verb because it shows the action of listening

3

More Action Verb Examples

  • Walk

  • Talk

  • Ride

  • Play

  • Type

  • Run

4

Is the verb "is" a action verb?

  • It is not because the verb "is" does not portray a verb of movement, and it is not a verb that you can physically see people do

5

Open Ended

List an example of a action verb

6

First Sentence Pattern

  • The first sentence pattern is made up of a subject and a action verb and together, they find a sense of completeness

  • Useful Tip: When the Subject and Action Verb make sense without the use of other words, it is apart of the first sentence pattern

7

A First Sentence Pattern Example

  • Sentence: Elise ran.

  • Subject: Elise

  • Action Verb: Ran (shows the action of running)

8

Complements

  • Cats would be the complement because it completes the meaning of "Bob liked the ..."

12

1st Type Of Complement: Direct Objects

  • The direct object is a complement that is the result of a verb or recieves the action of the verb

  • To locate the direct object, it answers "who" or "what"

  • The direct object will always be a noun or pronoun

13

For example,

  • (EX) The dog ran to its owner

  • Direct Object: Owner

  • Why? Because when you ask yourself, "What did the dog run to ," the answer is "owner", which is the direct object

  • It is also recieving the action of beiing "ran to"

  • The indirect will never be preceded by a "to" or "from"

  • Indirect Object: Nicholas

  • Because when you ask yourself, "For whom did Berry make a robot", the answer is Nicholas
