What do you remember about the gender of nouns?

Gender of nouns

• As you know, ALL nouns in Spanish are either masculine or feminine

• Adjectives must agree with the gender of noun, usually by changing to 'o' or 'a'

• E.G. un laboratorio moderno y una piscina antigua

• Adjectives that end in an 'l' or the letter 'e' don't change (for example, grande)

Number of nouns

• Adjectives must also agree with the 'number' of a noun

• Nouns can be singular (only one)

• Or nouns can be plural (more than one)

• E.G. unos laboratorios modernos y unas piscinas antiguas

• If the adjective ends in a consonant, add 'es' (e.g. útiles)

Agreement

• When using adjectives to describe, they must agree in both gender AND number

• This means you need to add an 's' or 'es' to make adjectives plural

• 'es' is added when the adjectives ends in a consonant

• bonito --> bonitos

• interesante --> interesantes

• facíl --> facíles
