Types of Sentences

What are the four types of sentences?

• Simple

• Compound

• Complex

• Compoud-Complex

Let's start with the first type!

SIMPLE SENTENCES

Multiple Choice

Take a guess and recall information. Which one of the following is a simple sentence?

• The boy

• We will stay at the mansion this weekend.

• Dad will buy a new car, and he will change its inner decoration.

• Will the girl?

Open Ended

It is your turn to try writing a simple sentence. Make sure that it has one subject and one object!

2.Compound Sentences

Those sentences are made of TWO independent clauses (or full/complete sentences). They are usually joined by something called "coordinating conjunctions" or FANBOYS. (For-and-nor-but-or-yet-so)

For example:

Lars did not attend his online meeting, but he made sure to send an email of apology to his boss.

This is a COMPOUND sentence made of two independent clauses/full sentences!

Complex Sentences

A sentence that has a dependent clause and an independent clause at the same time.

It is also known for having subordinating conjunctions (since it has a dependent clause and those clauses usually include subordinating conjunctions!)
