It's the first day of classes. Kate was very excited to go to school to see her classmates. Kate came early at the bus to so she is ahead of the others. Look at the line of people who came early.

In the picture, Kate is First on the line. Liz who is standing next top her is second. Mr. Boris who is next to Liz is third.

The words first, second, and third are called ordinal numbers. They show position. they tell where an object is in a list or a line.

When using ordinal numbers, find out first if you are starting from the left or from the right.
