The word PLURAL means MORE THAN ONE. This is the opposite of SINGULAR. When we are talking about PLURAL NOUNS, we are talking about MORE THAN ONE person, place, or thing. Look at the examples on the anchor chart to the right.

In class, we learned that a PROPER NOUN is the name given to a SPECIFIC person, place, or thing. A PROPER NOUN can also name days of the week, months of the year, and holidays. They are the PROPER names for nouns and always begin with a CAPITAL or UPPERCASE letter. Did you know that your name is considered a PROPER noun? It is the name of a SPECIFIC person....you!

Think about it!
When we are writing a sentence it must always include two parts. One of those parts is the 'naming part,' or the subject. The subject is WHO or WHAT the sentence is about. It is mostly either a noun or a pronoun. Look at the example in the card to the right. The underlined words tell WHO the sentence is talking about. The sentence is about the alligator.

Pronouns are nouns in disguise. A pronoun replaces the noun. For example, in the sentence, "My mom and I went to the store," the pronoun 'we' could replace the nouns 'My mom and me." The sentence would then say, "We went to the store."

When we are writing sentences we must always include two parts, a naming and a action part. We know that the naming part is the subject. The action part or predicate is what the subject is doing. Look at the sentence in the example to the right. The underline words tell you what the subject is doing, the action. The predicate or action that the alligator is doing is 'eats cookies and milk.'

When we are writing sentences we must always include two parts: a naming part (subject) and an action part (predicate). If your sentence does not have both a subject and a predicate it is not a COMPLETE sentence.
