Subjects Pronouns, Definite Articles and Ser

We have already talked about adjective agreement.

We know in Spanish our adjectives must agree in both NUMBER and GENDER.

Adjectives

Nouns are either masculine or feminine so our adjetives must match the gender of the nouns.

​

We also must place our adjectives AFTER our nouns.

​

EX: The funny boy = El chico gracioso

​EX: The daring girl = La chica atrevido

Definite Articles

We have 4 definite articles in Spanish:

El (masc)(singular)

La (fem) (singular)

Los (masc) (plural)

Las (fem) (plural)

Each of these mean "the" and you can tell the gender of a noun based on these definite articles as well as whether the noun in singular or plural.

Definite Articles

Singular = el and la

Plural = los and las

Masculine= el and los

Feminine = la and las

Subject Pronouns

Subject pronouns replaces a noun as the subject of a sentence.

In English, this is "I", "You", "He", "She" etc.

In Spanish we have subject pronouns too!
