Poll

Do the denominators have to be the same when you are multiplying fractions?

YES

NO

3

NO!!!

  • When you are MULTIPLYING/DIVIDING fractions, you DO NOT have to have the same denominators!!!!!!

  • Ex:

     13×25=215\frac{1}{3}\times\frac{2}{5}=\frac{2}{15}

4

Here is how you will multiply fractions.............

  •  45x 13=415\frac{4\Longrightarrow}{5\Longrightarrow}x\ \frac{1}{3}=\frac{4}{15}

  •  4×1=4 ,  5×3=154\times1=4\ ,\ \ 5\times3=15

5

LET'S PRACTICE!

  •  12×34\frac{1}{2}\times\frac{3}{4}

  •  56×12\frac{5}{6}\times\frac{1}{2}

  •  78×35\frac{7}{8}\times\frac{3}{5}

  •  23×17\frac{2}{3}\times\frac{1}{7}

6

WHEN DIVIDING FRACTIONS YOU HAVE TO USE KCF!

  • K- EEP

  • C-HANGE

  • F-LIP

7

KCF METHOD

  •  32 ÷19\frac{3}{2\ }\div\frac{1}{9}

  • KEEP  32\frac{3}{2}

  • CHANGE  ÷\div  TO  ×\times

  • FLIP  19\frac{1}{9}  TO  91\frac{9}{1}

  • REWRITE  32×91= 272\frac{3}{2}\times\frac{9}{1}=\ \frac{27}{2}

8

Multiple Choice

DIVIDE....

 32÷19\frac{3}{2}\div\frac{1}{9}

1

 36\frac{3}{6}

2

 272\frac{27}{2}

3

 318\frac{3}{18}

9

LET'S TRY KCF METHOD!

  •  35÷12\frac{3}{5}\div\frac{1}{2}

  •  15÷13\frac{1}{5}\div\frac{1}{3}

  •  27÷25\frac{2}{7}\div\frac{2}{5}

  •  45÷13\frac{4}{5}\div\frac{1}{3}

  •  45÷23\frac{4}{5}\div\frac{2}{3}

10

YOU DO!!!!!!!!!

Open Ended

 18×37\frac{1}{8}\times\frac{3}{7}

13

TRY THESE!

  •  35×18\frac{3}{5}\times\frac{1}{8}

  •  35÷18\frac{3}{5}\div\frac{1}{8}

  •  19÷68\frac{1}{9}\div\frac{6}{8}

  •  610×13\frac{6}{10}\times\frac{1}{3}

  •  59×18\frac{5}{9}\times\frac{1}{8}
