What is a whole note?

What is a quarter note?

Think of music notes as slices of pizza.

• Whole Note = 4 beats (slices)

• Half Note = 2 beats (slices)

• Quarter Note = 1 beat (slice)

All notes are grouped in music by measures.

• A measure (or bar) is the the area between two bar lines.

• Bar lines are lines that divide music into equal parts.

• A double bar line is one thin and thick line written at the end of a piece of music.
