  • We derive no laws from the declaration.

  • The declaration was not signed fully on July 4th. It was merely the adoption date. Many members signed it in August

  • It was essentially a break-up letter to Britain. We told them we were leaving and why it was their fault.

  • Jefferson's original text was twice as long as the finished product and he was unhappy with all of the changes.
