A SINGULAR NOUN names one person place or thing.
A PLURAL NOUN names more than one person place or thing.

Add -s to most singular nouns
baker +s = bakers
fellow +s = fellows
cricket +s = crickets

Add -es if the singular noun ends in -s, -ch, -sh, or -x
