Definite and Indefinite Article; what is the difference? The difference between these are in the following two sentences:

• Give me the chocolate chip cookie (this speaks about a particular cookie, it's defined, there's a plate full of different cookies; peanut butter, sugar, oatmeal raisin, and chocolate chip)

• Give me a cookie please. ( it's asking for any cookie)

Definite Article

• In Spanish there are 4 ways to say "the"

• The is a definite article, this means we are talking about someone or something specific. It is "defined" for us.

• If the noun is plural so is the definite article

• In Spanish all nouns have a gender; masculine or feminine

• If a noun ends in an -e or a consonant, one has to memorize its gender.

• Cultural Note: Remember as long as the group of creatures has at least one male member, the masculine plural article is used. Thus, “los gatos” could refer to a group of 10 male cats, or it could refer to a group of 9 female cats and one male cat.
