How to join?

• Submit a video of you (alone or with your family members) making the parol. The video should not go beyond 60 seconds. Please mention the name of your parol and the reason you chose the name.

• Last day to email your parol entry video: December 5, 2020 at 5pm.

• Only one parol entry per household

Competition procedure

Display your parol s on the trunk of your vehicle and park it at Shenandoah parking lot at 3:00 pm on December 12, 2020. Judges will check each competing parol (they will follow social distancing protocol). Parol owners should remain inside their cars for the duration of the event. We want to avoid person to person contact. Judges will be using Google Forms to judge and tally the score of each contestant.

History of The Parol

For Filipinos, hanging parols outside or inside their homes serves as an expression of shared faith and hope. The parol represents the Star of Bethlehem, which guided the three wise men to the manger of Jesus Christ.

The word "parol"

The word parol comes from the Spanish word farol, meaning lantern. It was introduced by the Spaniards when they brought Christianity to the island. Parols were originally used to light the way to church where filipinos attended the "Misa de Gallo" or mass of the rooster. The mass is held on December 16th and marks the beginning of the Christmas season.
