• Divide your paper into four squares and label each square

• Square 1: European Exploration

• Square 2: Prisoner Colony

• Square 3: Commonwealth of Australia

• Square 4: Aborigines

On the first square titled "European Explorations" please write the following:

• Dutch (Netherlands) first there in 1606, left after chased away by Aborigines

• James Cook ignored the Aborigines and claimed Australia for England

On slide titled "Prisoner Colony" please write down the following:

• England was looking for another place to send its prisoners

• Australia was an island that was open and prisoners couldn't escape

• Great location for shipping goods to and from Asia

On the square titled

"Commonwealth of Australia" please write down:

• 1901 the colony was officially named Australia

• Did not allow people of color until 1901

• Had 7 mini-colonies that became the states of Australia

On the square titled "Aborigines" please write down the following:

• Europeans forced Aboriginals to move or killed them

• Did not allow Aboriginals to teach their children about their culture

• From 1788-1967 (179 years), Aborigines had no rights in Australia
