Roanoke 1590

• Known as the lost city of Roanoke from North Carolina

• Because they all mysteriously vanished, leaving only the words croatoan.

• This colony had the first birth of the new world, Virginia Dare

• Settlers disappeared

Jamestown

First English Settlement

Had the first Representation

First Colony to bring slaves

All Male colony

Powhatan

Lived in the Jamestown area

They moved area the area never staying in one place

The men of Jamestown

They did not feel like they needed to work

Some just did not want to work

It was hard for the colony to survive when no one was working for it.

Jamestown vs Powhatan

The settlers brought with him disease that unfortunately killed off a big portion of the Powhatan Indians

Plymouth Colony

• Came on the Mayflower

• traveled for 66 days on the Altantic

• Settled on what is now Massachusetts

• Indians and the Pilgrims were friendly
