We begin working this problem in the ones place as usual.

  • 2 digits cannot be written in the ones place. In 16 there are 6 ones and 1 ten.

  • We write the 6 in the ones place and carry the 1 to the tens place.

  • Write a plus sign in front of the one to remind is to add the carried number instead of multiplying it.
