What is verb?

Verb adalah suatu kata yang menunjukkan sebuah aksi, perilaku, atau pun peristiwa yang dialami subject.

What is Linking Verb

Linking Verb adalah jenis kata kerja penghubung yang menghubungkan subjek dengan complement (pelengkap) yang menerangkannya, bisa noun complement atau adjective complement dan sering digunakan untuk menggantikan to be dan punya keterkaitan dengan sesuatu yang berhubungan dengan panca indra (look, sound, smell, feel, taste) atau keadaan (appear, seem, become, grow, turn, prove, remain, keep, stay, go, run).

Fungsi Linking Verb

• Seperti Verb biasa, hanya fungsinya saja yang berbeda.

• unutk to be (Is,Am,Are,Was,Were,Been) ada yang sebagi kata kerja dan ada yang sebagai kata bantu (auxiliary)

Examples

• She is here. (Is di sini adalah kata kerja)

• She is cooking (Is di sini adalah sebagi auxiliary-helping verb)

Helping Verbs

What is helping verbs (auxiliary)?

Kata kerja ini berfungsi membantu kata kerja utama (main verbs) dalam sebuah kalimat. Jika kata kerja bantu tersebut dihilangkan, ia tidak menghilangkan makna inti dari kalimat tersebut.

Jadi, selain kata kerja utama, juga ada kata kerja bantu.

Contoh:

Primary Helping Verbs

• Seperti yang telah dicontohkan di kalimat sebelumnya, penggunaannya adalah:

• do/does ada dalam present simple tense

• did ada dalam kalimat past tense

• has/have ada dalam kalimat present perfect

• had ada dalam kalimat past perfect

• to be ada dalam kalimat simple present, simple past, continous, passive voice.

Modals Helping Verbs

What is modals?

• A modal is a type of auxiliary (helping) verb that is used to express: ability, possibility, permission or obligation. Modal phrases (or semi-modals) are used to express the same things as modals, but are a combination of auxiliary verbs and the preposition to.
