To express a big difference between two things we can use:

-far\a lot\much+comparative

Canoeing is allot more exiting than swimming.

-by far\easily +superlative:

She is by far the most talented player.

This is the easily the best guidebook.

To express a small difference we can use a [little] bit-slightly +comparative :

Could you drive a bit more slowly?

I am slightly older than the other students.

ADVERBS OF DEGREE

We use adverbs of degree to make adjectives and adverbs stronger or weaker.

Gradable adjs/adverbs refer to qualities that we can easily grade or compare and have a comparative and superlative form.

To make them stronger we use very,extremly,or really:

It is very hot.

I felt extremly tired.

To make them weaker, we use a bit/quite /fairly +positive adj/adv.

She works quite/fairly quickly.

Making Comparison with Nouns

We can use more, the most,less, the least, fever, and the fewest with nouns to compare quantities.

We use more and the most +uncountable /plural countable noun:

He has got more money than me.

We use less and the least +uncountable noun:

My brother watches less television than I do.

We use fewer and fewest + plural countable noun:


You have got fewer points than me.

With more, less and fewer we use than +noun-pronoun -clause:

She has got more problems than me .
