Today I'm going to teach what prefixes and suffixes are and why they are important to us as readers.

What is a prefix and a suffix?
A prefix is syllable that is added to the beginning of a root/base word.
A suffix is syllable that is added to the ending of a root/base word.
When a prefix or suffix is added to a base word it changes the meaning.

How do suffixes work?
For example, -or, -ar, -er, -ist means someone who
When added to the end of a verb/action word it means someone who does that actions.
For example: teach +er = teacher (someone who teaches), sail +or = sailor (someone who sails)
