AMETROPIA VS EMMETROPIA

Ametropia is a state where refractive error is present.

Emmetropia is where no refractive error present.

Ametropia can be classified into :

• Axial

• Curvature

• Refractive index

• Myopia

• Hyperopia

• Astigmatism

• Presbyopia

MYOPIA

• Axial myopia is due to elongation of eyeball

• Refractive myopia due to curvature of cornea / crystalline lens is smaller

• Index increase in Diabetic patient

HYPEROPIA

• Axial myopia is due to shorter eyeball

• Refractive myopia due to curvature of cornea / crystalline lens is larger

• Index increase in Diabetic patient

ASTIGMATISM

• Astigmatism is due to the irregular surface of cornea

• Astigmatism is due to the tilt position of crystalline lens

PRESBYOPIA

• Presbyopia is due to changes in ocular media especially crystalline lens
