The Presidency
Who can become the President? Here's what the Constitution says...
No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

So....based off the passage from the Constitution (see it again below), what are the three qualifications that one must meet in order to be the President?
No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.
6
Qualifications
According to the Constitution the President must:
1. Be a natural born US citizen
2. Be at least 35 years old
3. Have been a resident of the United States for 14 years (consecutive)
***Historically, the "natural born" clause of this passage was interpreted to mean that you must be born in the US (Native Born). It is now understood that clause #1 means that would need to be a citizen at birth. This means that you do not necessarily need to be born on US soil, but as we learned earlier this year, you just need to be born to parent who are US citizens if you are born abroad. Unless this clause is removed, what is does mean is that no naturalized immigrant can serve as US President.

Presidential Terms
Each Presidential term in office is 4 years
Originally, the Constitution set no limits on the # of terms a President can serve - and - all Presidents stopped at two terms after George Washington set the precedent to leave office after 8 years.
Franklin D Roosevelt broke the "two term tradition" after being elected to a 3rd term in 1940...and he won again for a 4th time in 1944!
After his time in office the 22nd Amendment (1951) was passed and it limited the President to two terms in office
