Forms of Energy

2
Types of Energy
There are 9 types of energy we will study and they fall into two categories.
3
Cateogries of Energy
Each type of energy is either potential (stored) energy, kinetic (moving) energy or a combination of the two.
4
Electrical Energy
Electrical Energy is the flow of electrons through a conductor.
Examples: Electric power for lights, electronic devices etc...
5
Thermal Energy
The is the kinetic energy of the particles on and object or place.
Examples: The Sun, a microwave, walking in hot sand, boiling water.
6
Radiant Energy or Light energy
Light is a form of energy also called radiant energy
Examples: flashlight, a glow stick and the sun
7
Sound Energy
This is the compression of particles that cause vibrations we can hear through waves
It is a form of kinetic energy
Examples: Music, pop of fireworks, talking.
8
Nuclear Energy
This is a kinetic energy that is release by breaking or combine the nucleus of an atom.
Examples" Nuclear power plant, Atom bomb
9
Chemical Energy
This is a potential energy stored in the bonds between atoms in molecules.
Examples: Gas, coal and oil/
10
Elastic Energy
This is a potential energy from an object's tendency to span back into shape when misshapen.
Examples: Stretched rubber band, basketball.
11
Gravitational
This is the potential energy an object has due to its height.
The higher the object the more energy is stored.
Examples: Going on top of a bridge to bungie jump, The high point of an egg drop.
12
Mechanical
This both potential and kinetic. This is the back an forth stored energy of objects.
Examples: A pinball machine, rollercoaster.
