Manger quelque chose/eating something

  • Right after MANGER, we can add what it is that we are eating, same as in English

  • Ex: I am eating a green apple = je mange une pomme verte

  • Ex: We eat candies = nous mangeons des bonbons

  • Il mange un sandwich = he is eating a sandwich

Du / De La / Des

  • DES is used whenever we eat multiples of something, like "des fraises (some strawberries)" or "des croustilles (some chips)"

  • DU is used for masculine foods we eat some of, like "du gâteau (some cake)", "du pain (some bread)", or "du fromage (some cheese)"

  • DE LA is used for feminine foods we eat some of, like "de la glace (some ice cream)", "de la dinde (some turkey)"

  • Ex: Je mange des cerises - i am eating some cherries

  • Je mange du pain = I am eating some bread

  • Tu manges de la glace = you are eating some ice cream
