An adjective is a word that describes a noun. It answers questions like "how many?" "what kind?" "What is it like?"

  • Colours: "She wore a blue skirt."

  • "DCB is a British school."

  • "This fabric is soft."

Some words can be nouns or adjectives depending on how they are used.

  • Noun: He is a communist.

  • Adjective: He belongs to the Communist Party.

  • Noun: The British like to drink tea.

  • Adjective: This is a British school.

An adverb is a word that describes an adjective or a verb. It answers questions like "how much?" "how far?". Words that end in "ly" are usually adverbs, but not all adverbs end in "ly".

  • He is a very good student.

  • She wore a bright blue skirt.

  • He ran quickly to get help.

  • He speaks very slowly.
