2

learning Objectives

  • To Explain the reaction of Carbonates with Acid

  • To explain the reaction by word equation

3

Metal Carbonate + Acid = Salt + Water + Carbon dioxide

when an metal carbonate reacts with an acid it will produce a salt and the other two products are water and carbon dioxide gas. And it is proved by the scientists that all types of the metal carbonates will produce the above three products.

There are many types of the metal carbonates like,

iron carbonate

calcium carbonate

zinc carbonate

magnesium carbonate

4

Chemical Equations:

Calcium carbonate + hydrochloric acid = Calcium Chloride + water + Carbon dioxide

CaCO3 + HCl = CaCl2 + H2O + CO2

Iron Carbonate + Sulfuric acid = Iron Sulphate + Water + Carbon dioxide

FeCO3 + H2SO4 = FeSO4 + H2O + CO2

Magnesium Carbonate + Nitric Acid = magnesium Nitrate + water + Carbon dioxide

MgCO3 + HNO3 = MgNO3 + H2O + CO2
