Quick Review!

  • Nouns are people, places, things, and ideas.

  • Pronouns can stand in the place of nouns.

  • Adjectives modify nouns.

  • German nouns have "grammatical gender."

  • The three genders in German are masculine (der-words), feminine (die-words), and neuter (das-words).

13

Possessivadjektive

  • Possessive adjectives in German get endings based on the gender, number, and case of the noun they modify.

  • For example, take this sentence:

  • Mein Vater ist cool.

  • "Vater" is a masculine noun (der-word), singular, and is the subject of the sentence (nominative case).

  • Because of that, "mein" gets no ending

14

Possessiveadjektive

These are the endings for "mein," but all possessive adjectives take the same endings.

You just have to remember whether the ending is blank, -e, or -en for now.

This is why it's important to always learn the der/die/das when you learn a new noun.
