Background Knowledge for Article 5:

 The contemporary maps during the age of exploration were consistently changing as new information was shared. The Waldseemüller map got many things geographically correct. It also needed more information on some areas. Students will be developing a visual memory of maps as they see and use the same images repeatedly. Have the students use their “memory of a world map” to identify differences in the Waldseemüller map. Then give an image for reference.
