In object questions where we want to find information about the object, we use the auxiliary verb do/does/did.

4

Subject questions examples

Who likes ice-cream? Jack likes ice-cream. (NOT Who does like ice-cream?)

Who writes short stories? My sister writes short stories.

Who keeps a pig in the yard? Mary

5

Object question examples

6

Present Simple vs Present Continuous

We use the present simple tense when we want to talk about fixed habits or routines – things that don’t change.

Ex: I usually drink coffee. / She often goes to the bakery.

We use the present continuous to talk about actions that are happening at the present moment but will soon finish.

Ex: I'm listening to music right now.

We use PC to express future appointments.

Ex: We are having a party this afternoon.

7

Phrases

  • Simple present: frequency adverbs= always, usually, often, seldom, never, rarely.

  • Present Continuous: now, at the moment, now, right now, nowadays.

  • PC future: this afternoon, tomorrow, next week, etc.

8

Unit 2: Modern life

  • Present Perfect vs Simple past
