What's a Unit Rate?
A rate compares unlike things or units.
The word unit means a single item or the number one.
A unit rate tells how many units of one type compare to one unit of a second type.
We can use the word per for unit rates. Per means "for each."
We say "three dollars per pound" for a unit rate. We can also say "three dollars for each pound."
We buy meat or bananas based on a price per pound. These are examples of unit rates
