Who was Queen Elizabeth I ?
Queen Elizabeth I was a famous Queen who ruled England, Ireland and Wales from 1558 to 1603.
She was on the throne for 45 years!
The time she ruled was called the ‘Elizabethan age’ because of her name.

Sir Thomas Wyatt led a rebellion against Mary but because Elizabeth knew the plan she was locked in a tower for 8 weeks!
When Wyatt was executed, Elizabeth was set free.
Mary died in 1558 which meant that Elizabeth became queen.

She was a queen who liked to get her way and had a temper.
But she did have wise advisors to help her rule.
She travelled around England visiting castles and grand houses.

Next in line to the throne was James VI of Scotland, son of Mary Queen of Scots. He was also related to Elizabeth.
He became King James I of England when Queen Elizabeth I died in 1603.
She was buried in Westminster Abbey next to her grandfather Henry VII.
