Using call numbers to find just right books

Call numbers in the Catalog

The call number of a title can help you identify the type of book and then find it.

Some fiction books only have letters in the call number.

• Dot books - E (then 3 color letters then 3 author's last name)

• Picture books - E (then 3 author's last name)

• Chapter fiction - F (then 3 author's last name)

But, some fiction type books have a Dewey number and letters

• Fairytales - 398.2

• Graphic Novels - 741.5

• Poetry - 811
