4

Frame Rate

  • minimum of 12 frames per second

  • norm is 24 frames per second

  • that means every second that goes by there are 24 frames, or drawings, being shown.... that's a lot!

5

Multiple Choice

What is the minimum number of drawings that our brain can recognize as movement?

1

34

6

Size

  • different sizes based on what screen you make it for

  • every screen is made put of pixels

  • every pixel is made up of 3 colors RGB

7

Multiple Choice

What happens when you have a background and a character that are moving at different frame rates?

1

a nice overlapping of movement

2

the character is extra- cartoony

3

a sliding or jerking motion

8

Planning is Essential!

Planning is an important step in creating an animation project.... in life really!

9

Storyboarding is an important part of animating... not only movies put designing games as well!!

In animation, a scene is the action happening in front of the camera while the camera does not change the angle. As long as the camera does not stop "filming", you are in the same scene.

--- 2 characters talking: When the camera is facing the first character, this is 1 scene. When the camera cuts and films the 2nd character, you have a 2nd scene.

10

Multiple Choice

What defines the change from one scene to another?

1

camera cut

2

when the character stops moving

3

when a character turns away from the camers

Exposure Sheet, Timeline and Timing

  • The exposure of a drawing (frame) is the length of time that it stays on the screen.

  • the general standard is 24 or 25 frames (drawings) per second

  • The exposure sheet, also known as the Xsheet- used when an animator is planning a scene

  •  allows you to see the animation timing in detail.

12

Xsheet

  •  columns corresponding to the different layers

  • Each column is split into rows representing the frames (images)

  • mainly created for the animator to communicate with the cameraman regarding the scene's timing, the camera moves, and element trajectories.

13

Timeline

  • A traditional timeline is a horizontal and chronological representation of key events occurring

14

Timeline

A traditional timeline is a horizontal and chronological representation of key events occurring

A keyframe is a computer-generated key position that contains values and coordinates for the element's onscreen positioning

Interpolation: computer generated animation.--- uses keyframes to tell it where to start and stop the animation

Bitmap and Vector Graphics

  • Bitmap: made of pixels

  • Vector: made by using points and math
