Possessive adjectives

Like descriptive adjectives, these are words that are used to qualify people, places or things. However, these express the quality of OWNERSHIP or POSSESSION.

In Spanish, possessive adjectives agree in NUMBER with the nouns they modify.

nuestra profesora 👩‍🏫

nuestras hermanas 👯‍♀️

nuestro tío 👨‍🦰

nuestros primos 👪

The forms nuestro and vuestro agree in both GENDER and NUMBER with the nouns they modify.

Possessive adjectives are always placed before the nouns they modify.

• ¿Está tu novio aquí?

• No, mi novio está en la biblioteca.

Because su and sus have multiple meanings (your, his, her, theirs, its), you can avoid confusion by using this formula: [article] + [noun] + de + [subject pronoun]

Los parientes de ella = (her relatives)

Los parientes de él = (his relatives)

Los parientes de usted = (your relatives)

Los parientes de ellos = (their relatives)
