4.2c Fraction as a Division Statement

Another way to look at the fraction bar is to look at it as a division symbol

 $\frac{7}{10}$  should be read as "7 divided by 10"

Some other examples.......

•  $\frac{4}{8}$  means the same as 4 divided by 8

•  $1\ divided\ by\ 2\ means\ the\ same\ as\ \frac{1}{2}$

• Mrs. Abercrombie has 4 brownies. She wants to share them with her 6 students. What fraction of brownie does each student get?

• Each person will receive 4/6 of a brownie
