AN ATOM !!

4

What are they?

  • The Nucleus at the core holds Protons and Neutrons.

  • Outside of the Nucleus are Electrons.

  • The amount of each is what we call the Atomic Number.

  • For example: Hydrogen's Atomic Number is 1, so that means it has 1 Proton, Neutron AND Electron.

5

Protons!

  • Positively Charged particles

  • Has a mass that is equal to Electrons

Slide image

6

Neutrons

  • Have neither a positive or negative charge.

  • They have very little mass.

Slide image

7

Electrons

  • Negatively charged particles.

  • They can be shared with other atoms!

Multiple Choice

If I am positively charged, what am I?

1

A Proton

2

A Neutron

3

An Electron

4

A Speedy Train

9

Multiple Choice

If I am neutral, and the scale is BARELY moving, what am I?

1

Proton

2

Neutron

3

Electron

10

Multiple Choice

I share myself with other atoms, and I am negatively charged, what am I?

1

Proton

2

Neutron

3

Electron

11

What makes them similar?

  • Protons and Electrons have the same mass

  • Their total mass is what becomes an element's ATOMIC Mass

  • Protons + Electrons = Atomic Mass

12

Multiple Choice

If the ATOMIC Number of Carbon ( C ) is 6, how many Protons, Neutrons, and Electrons does Carbon Have?
