Now it’s time to take another step forward and learn about some of the verbs that don’t follow all of the rules that you’ve learned.

Some verbs form their -ed/simple past form by changing the ending to -ato/-uto/-ito. These are called regular past participles.


There are also some verbs that DON’T follow this rule. These are called irregular past participles and we have the same idea in English, too!

I walked (regular)

I ran (irregular not *runned)


I studied (regular)

I wrote (irregular not *writed)


I prepared (regular)

I drank (irregular not *drinked)

These irregular past participles need to be memorized. There are no real rules or patterns, other that that they end in -to or -so.
