Focus on Facts

You need to work on a team in most jobs.

Work can be finished better & faster when you work with others.

It may be difficult to work with others.

It is possible to work better with other people when you can know if information is a fact or an opinion.

3

Facts vs Opinion

  • Facts are things you can prove.

  •  Opinions tell what a person thinks or feels about something.

  • You can have clearer communication with your coworkers if you can identify facts and opinions.

Focus on the Facts

  • You should try to look for facts when you need to make a decision.

  • Try to avoid using only your opinion to make choices.

  • Be careful when you share information. You should try to not say things that are negative about someone only because of the way you feel.

  • You can disagree with people. You should tell reasons that are facts to explain why you disagree. They will be able to understand what you mean better.

7

Tell Your Opinion

  • You should try not to tell your opinions to hurt someone. You do not need to avoid saying all of your opinions though. You can show that you care about your work when you tell your opinion about a problem at work.

  • Your opinions could improve the task you are working on. They could help your team enjoy its work more. Don’t be shy! These ideas can help you share your opinion at work.

8

Opinion

  • Talk about ideas openly: You should tell your opinions at work to help start discussions. You can share your ideas and feedback also.

  • Tell opinions respectfully: Your coworkers may not agree with you. They will respect your feedback if you say it in a professional way.

  • Include facts that explain your opinion.

Opinion

  • Be brief: You should tell your opinions in a clear way. Try not to talk more than you have to when you share opinions. Your supervisor will be able to understand your opinions better when you say what you think and not much extra information.

  • Avoid gossip: Don’t spread the dirt! You may say things that are not true when you tell gossip. You should not gossip at work. Gossip can hurt your coworkers. Don’t share gossip when you hear it. You will earn more respect from your supervisors and coworkers when you do not share gossip.
