INSPECTOR FIX’S NOTES

2 October 1872:

• I have just seen Fogg and his manservant. They got on the ship to Egypt.

9 October 1872: 

• They didn’t leave the ship yesterday in Egypt. I’m sure he is the robber, but I need more evidence. No problem! I have already learned their next stop. 

15 October 1872: 

• I found a way to stop them! I have just seen Passepartout break the law in Bombay. He entered a pagoda with his sandals on. The priest got very angry. I have known the law in India for a long time. At least I can slow them down with the fine they have to pay! 

Look at Inspector Fix’s notes again. He used two types of structures to talk about the past. How are they different?

• I have just seen Fogg and his manservant. 

• They got on the ship and I followed them.

Now it’s your turn! You have just joined Inspector Fix as a second detective and you have to help him complete his notes. Use the correct form of the verbs in the parentheses. Be careful with the time words, negatives and questions. There are two examples for you.

• Ex 1: I have lost (lose) Fogg and his manservant recently.

• Ex 2: I saw (see) them get on the ship yesterday.
