Like most empires, the Byzantine Empire didn’t last forever

It was constantly being attacked by Muslim armies, Turks, and Slavs. The Byzantines tried many things to hold off attackers.


They used bribes, diplomacy (negotiating), marriages, and their military power to keep their enemies back.

Empire Ends

Slowly the empire shrank until it was nothing more than a small strip of land around Constantinople.


The Ottoman Turks eventually captured Constantinople in 1453 and ended the empire.
