Inside a Tudor ship

• 1.The captain was in charge of the ship and had his own cabin.

• 2. Second in command was the first mate.

• 3. The boatswain or bo’sun was in charge of the sails and rigging (ropes). He would call the crew to duty with a whistle.

• 4. Sailors worked the sails with ropes. They had to know all the ropes and the knots to tie them up with.

• 5. Hammocks were not used on English ships until 1586
