Material Culture

  • Aspects of the culture you can touch:

  • Beauty

  • What people of a culture do in their free time and how they creatively express themselves.

Social Organization

  • How the people in society group themselves.

Language and Nonverbal Communication

This includes all recognizable signs within the culture. It can be anything from the written and spoken language to traffic signs and gestures.

Social Control

This is how the society keeps order and who is responsible for ensuring peace. It encompasses government systems, rewards and punishments. It is the way society makes sure people follow the rules and laws

World View

This encompasses the important beliefs and values of the system, as well as how they look at the world. Religion and what the society holds as fundamental rights fall into the category of worldview.

Education

This includes all of the views that people within society are taught and learn. They can be both informal and formal.

Economic Organization

This is how people within the society make and spend their money. It also includes how the government does this.

Some examples are:

- what the culture chooses to produce

-who owns property

-what is seen as an acceptable standards of living

Conflict and Warfare

This included systems in place to ensure peace. It deals with the defense of the society as well as appropriate means of setting conflict within the society.
