The main function of the circulatory system is to pump blood through the body.
Another name for circulatory is cardiovascular. Cardio = Heart
Vascular = veins.
3
The heart is a muscle. A very powerful special muscle that pumps blood through our bodies. The heart is the size of a human fist.
4
Heart
The heart is similar to a pump or two pumps in one.
The movement of blood through the heart and around the body is called circulation.
It takes your heart 60 seconds to pump blood to every cell in your body.
5
Study the parts of the Heart. You will be asked to label them.

This oxygen is transported to other cells.
To stay alive, a person needs healthy living cells.
15
How do you keep your heart Healthy?
Remember that your heart is a muscle. If you want it to be strong, you need to exercise it. How do you do it? By being active in a way that gets you huffing and puffing, like jumping rope, dancing, or playing basketball.
Try to eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables each day. Avoid sugary soft drinks and fruit drinks.
Try to be active every day for at least 30 minutes! An hour would be even better for your heart! Eat a variety of healthy foods and avoid foods high in unhealthy fats, such as saturated fats and trans fats (reading food labels can help you figure out if your favorite snacks contain these unhealthy ingredients).
16
Red Blood Cells

Let's Check our Heart!
You can calculate your pulse to see how many beats your heart is beating in 1 minute (60 seconds).
You will LIGHTLY press on the skin where there is a large artery.
The best places are on the side of your neck and the inside of your wrist just below the thumb.
You should feel a small beat under your skin.
20
Each beat is caused by the squeezing of your heart. Remember that your heart is like a pump. It will squeeze and release.
If you want to find your heart rate, you will need a watch with a second hand or a timer. You will have to find your pulse and count how many beats you feel in 60 seconds (1 minute).
