2

Objective

List the levels of organization in the body.

3

Reading Time!!

By groups of 3 you will have 15 mins to read pages 4 to 9. Remember to underline the important ideas. Only read. DO NOT answer the book.

4

Summary

5

Cells

The basic unit of structure and function in a living thing.

Structures:

-Cell Membrane

-Nucleus

-Mitochondria

-Cytoplasm

Functions: cells carry on the processes that keep organisms alive.

6

Tissues

A group of similar cells that perform the same function.

Types:

-Muscle tissue: can contract or shorten. Makes body move.

-Nervous tissue: directs and controls the process. Carry the electrical messages between the brain and other parts of the body.

-Connective tissue: provides support for the body and connects all the parts.

-Epithelial tissue: covers the surfaces of the body. Protects the delicate structures that lie beneath it.

7

Organs

Is a structure that is made up of different kinds of tissue.

Performs specific functions, but more complex than a tissue.

8

Systems

A group of organs that work together, carrying out major functions.

9

Organisms

The last level of organization.

10

Time to practice

With different groups you will answer the pages 4 to 9 of your books. Remember you must speak English most of the time.
