 An action verb tells what the subject does.

• A linking verb does not show action.

It connects the subject to a noun or an adjective in the predicate.

It tells what the subject is or is like.

• The verb be is the most common linking verb.

It has special forms in the present tense: am, is, are.

It has special forms in the past tense: was, were
