Note...

  • The Korean Alphabet 한글 is made up of 19 consonants and 21 vowels making up 41 letters in total

  • Their is no correct way to compare pronunciation to our own native language due to accents. So don't worry too much about matching the sounds of romanization with the Korean alphabet 한글

  • In order to learn Korean you need to know how to read, write, and pronounce the Korean alphabet 한글

  • We will start off with romanization to help us remember and be able to pronounce these letters.

  • Remember when a letter is put together making a word, the pronunciation can differ

Note...

  • There are 9 ways to write a syllable block in Korean an only 4 are mostly used

  • When writing a syllable block, the letters 으 우 오 유 요 , are horizontal making the block horizontal but if the letters are 여야애에어아이얘예, then it makes the syllable block vertical. ex will be showed in next slide

  • You CAN'T make a syllable block WITHOUT a at least one vowel and consonant

  • There is never more than one vowel in a syllable block. EVER

The 4 main blocks

Here their are four ways to write a syllable block. As seen in the picture if the vowel is horizontal it will make the block as well and if the vowel is vertical then the block becomes vertical.

Now lets write it down for practice. Remember these aren't words but it's good for practice and will help you remember.
