Spelling

  • Always do a spell check using the spell check tool.

  • But... be careful. Sometimes they don't always pick the right word to replace. Especially if your spelling is really off.

6

Grammar

  • Use the grammar check tool

  • Again, be careful. Sometimes the grammar check is wrong. For example:

  • A and remaining C students have the option to take it on Tuesday, February 16th.  This sentence would be underlined in blue in google because it doesn't make sense. Unless... you understand the context. We know what this means because of our split schedules at LNS.

7

Syntax

  • the arrangement of words and phrases to create well-formed sentences in a language.

  • Syntax errors can sometimes be eliminating an article from your speech. Eliminating articles like a, an, or the is one example of a syntax error.

  • I am teacher at North Star High School.

  • I am a teacher at North Star High school.

  • Word order also matters.

8

Word order- adjectives

  • Must always be in this order:

  • 1. opinion, 2. size, 3. physical quality, 4. shape, 5. age, 6. color, 7. origin, 8. material, 9. type, 10. purpose.

  • We say "that is a beautiful blue winter coat." Not "that is a blue winter beautiful coat."
